Our founder, Gosia Piatek, sat down with filmmaker Ed Sayers and producer Rebecca Wolff—the creative team behind Super Nature, a feature-length documentary shot entirely on Super 8 film—currently playing at the Melbourne International Film Festival. They discussed creativity, patience, circularity, and why working within limits is what the future needs.
On creative serendipity
Gosia: When we visited Derek Jarman's garden at Dungeness earlier this year, we borrowed one of your Super 8 cameras without really knowing where it would lead. Then your film came up as one of the titles we could support through Melbourne International Film Festival. It felt like this strange thread connecting everything together.
We'd gone there because our design team had been studying Jarman's relationship with nature and his workwear. We filmed the garden on Super 8, and suddenly we're here talking about a feature film made entirely on the same format. It felt meant to happen.
Ed: I love that. It's funny how creative projects seem to find each other.
